Mario Chalmers is something of a whipping boy for the Miami Heat. The former Kansas Jayhawks starter – the guy who did this in the national championship game in 2008 – has a high standard to live up to given that he plays with two of the greatest players in the world.
LeBron James tends to be the guy who gives Chalmers the most crap on the team. Whenever Chalmers makes the wrong play, a bad pass, or simply just looks like Mario Chalmers, LeBron can be found in Chalmers face letting him know what he needs to correct. And that can be a scary thing.
Of course, only Chalmers would go back at LeBron as if he is actually Lebron, but that’s why we love him, no?
Anyway, the Miami Heat, who won their second straight NBA title last season, got their day at the White House this week, as is tradition for major sporting teams who win championships. President Obama introduced the team, said some nice things about the Heat, made some jokes, you know, that kind of thing. But what we didn’t know is that Obama watches more Heat games than we thought he did, finishing his short speech with this zinger.
It appears now that Obama has Chalmers’ back, which is going to do wonders for Chalmers’ self-confidence. Maybe now Chalmers will have the courage to handle LeBron’s vicious attacks, or LeBron will soften up knowing that Obama is watching him. It must be good to have friends in high places.
