Kansas City Chiefs Sign Jordan Campbell and Joe McKnight

Kansas City made a couple of interesting signings at the end of their first week of the offseason. Terez A. Playor of the Kansas City Star has confirmed the Chiefs have signed linebacker Jordan Campbell to a contract.

Paylor has not confirmed the signing of Joe McKnight as of this writing, but the picture below (note the caption) would suggest McKnight is in the fold as well.

Campbell was with the Cincinnati Bengals this past season as an undrafted free agent out of New Mexico Highlands. While at Highlands, he transferred there from USC, he set a conference record with an 89-yard punt, so watch out Dustin Colquitt. Campbell is also famous for foolishly challenging James Harrison in arm wrestling during this past season of Hard Knocks. He did not win (shocking).

Cincinnati has a ton of depth at linebacker so making the team was going to be an uphill battle for Campbell anyway. But he has a lot of raw skills that warrant a long look. He runs a 40-yard dash in the 4.5 to 4.6 range and is very strong. He’s a long shot to make next year’s team, but he’s an interesting prospect.

Joe McKnight is another USC alum who spent three years with the New York Jets from 2010-2012. The former fourth round pick has gained just 679 yards from scrimmage (502 rushing, 177 receiving) in his career, but he has three special teams returns for touchdowns and is incredibly athletic and fast. He could be an interesting option as a third string running back who takes over the punt and kick return duties if Kansas City cannot re-sign Dexter McCluster and/or Quintin Demps.

UPDATE:

Chiefs have made one more signing…
