KC Kingdom is expanding at a rapid pace, and our goal is to be the best Kansas City area sports site on the internet. Ben and I are pleased to announce we have added another new staff member, Austin New, to our staff roster. Austin will be helping in our effort to expand our Royals and Chiefs coverage. We are excited to have him writing for KC Kingdom.

Austin has hit the ground running, and has already published his first two articles with us. He told us the Chiefs would cover the spread (which they did) in his first article, and he talked about how the Chiefs beat the odds to win 11 games in 2013.

Like all of the new writers to KC Kingdom, Tom took a few minutes to answer eight questions so we can get to know him just a little better. Here are his answers to those 8 questions:

How did you become a fan of the team you’re covering?

I was raised in a Chiefs/Royals home, and I have been a fan my whole life. I was born in 1993, which is obviously after the Royals last championship, and the last time the Chiefs won a playoff game, I was only 3 months old. Obviously, I’m not a “bandwagon” fan.

Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?

I grew grew up in the KC Metro area (Independence, MO), and I still reside there (Grain Valley, MO). Once a KC native, Always a KC native!

What is your college/educational background?

I am currently studying Sports Management at The University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg, MO.

What do you do for a living?

Currently I attend UCM, and during my free time I work at ABF in Kansas City, MO.

Do you have a family?

I do not have my own family, but I know that when I have my first son, his initials are going to be “ESPN”!

What do you like to do for fun (sports related or otherwise)?

During the summer, my best friend and I spend most of the time at Kauffman stadium collecting autographs from the players. That is by far, my favorite hobby – collecting sports memorabilia. My collection at the moment is worth a little over $7,000.

What are your least favorite team(s) and why?

My least favorite MLB team is the New York Yankees. I hate the way they just throw money around like nothing and buy basically any player they want. It takes away from the game. Also, my second favorite baseball team behind the Royals is the Boston Red Sox. My least favorite team in the NFL is probably the New England Patriots. I’m not exactly sure why, but I just really dislike Tom Brady.

What is your favorite sports moment or memory?

My favorite sports moment of all time is when the Chiefs acquired Marcus Allen from the Raiders, and after all that time being mistreated by them, he scored his 100th TD against them, as the Chiefs beat them. But, my favorite sports memory would be this past MLB Post-Season. Seeing one single man (David Ortiz) carry a team on his back all the way to a title, was just incredible!
