The Missouri Tigers improve to 12-1 on the season with their home win against the Long Beach State 49ers on Saturday. Lead by Jabari Browns 22 points, Missouri was able to fight off the pesky 49ers and extend their home game winning streak to 26 in a row, the longest current streak in the nation.
Long Beach State (4-10) cut the deficit to two points with just under six minutes remaining, but Missouri outscored the 49ers 12-4 down the end stretch of the game. The 49ers shot just 27 percent and were out rebounded 24-11 in the second half.
The SEC’s leading scorer, Jordan Clarkson, was held to a season low of just 11 points. Clarkson currently averages 20.0 points per game, good enough for best in the conference. Despite his lack of production, Earnest Ross was able to add 16 points while Ryan Rosburg collected a career high 11 rebounds.
The Tigers had to claw their way back from an 8 point deficit after missing six of their first 11 free throws and getting out rebounded 18-13 in the first half.
Jabari Brown was the player of the game with his 22 points and 3 rebounds. Brown also hit a clutch 3-point shot with 2:18 left in the game, giving Mizzou a 64-57 lead. Missouri has a nice trio of players in Clarkson, Brown and Ross. All three have been key contributors for the Tigers during their 12-1 start. Remember, Missouri is two missed free throws away from being 13-0.
Mizzou opens up conference play this Wednesday at home against Georgia.
