The Postgame: San Diego Chargers 27, Kansas City Chiefs 24 in Overtime

Score: Chargers 27, Chiefs 24 (Overtime)

It was over when: Chase Daniel‘s fourth down pass in overtime fell incomplete and gave the Chargers the win.

Player of the Game: Knile Davis rushed for 81 yards and scored two touchdowns for the Chiefs. He’s quickly developing into a great second option for the Chiefs behind Jamaal Charles.

Fun Fact: KC’s 11-5 season ties the best turn around in NFL history for a team that had the worst record the year before.

1. Knile Davis and Chase Daniel

Davis looked great in the first half until San Diego started loading up against the run. Daniel was very solid and proved that he could win a game or two for an NFL team should be thrown into the fire due to an injury.

2. Josh Martin, James-Michael Johnson, Mike Catapano, Allen Bailey

These are the four defensive players that really stood out to me. All of them were able to get consistent pressure on the quarterback and held their own in the running game. There are still some worries in the secondary, specifically at safety.

3. “Momentum” and Health

KC has to feel good about the general health of the team and the way their backups played against San Diego. Too many good things here to not feel good about the Colts matchup next weekend.

1. Sean Smith

Smith was injured while filling in for a banged up Ron Parker. KC needs him to be healthy next week.

2. Ryan Succop

A late fourth quarter miss that cost the Chiefs the win in regulation plus a miss last week against Indianapolis is a disturbing trend for Succop heading into the playoffs.

3. Secondary

Kendrick Lewis had an awful game and Dunta Robinson allowed a few big plays himself. There didn’t appear to be a solution on the roster to replace them, so it may be an area the Chiefs address in the draft.
