Keys To The Game for the Chiefs:
1- AVOIDING INJURIES: No matter who does or does not sit out on Sunday, the Chiefs need to avoid injuries to anymore of their core of key players. Branden Albert, Dwayne Bowe, Tamba Hali, and Justin Houston are already not playing due to a variety of health issues. Alex Smith, Jamaal Charles, Eric Berry, Brandon Flowers, and Derrick Johnson should also join the others on the bench. This game is meaningless in the grand scheme of things so there is no reason to risk anything in this game.
2- A LOOK AT THE RESERVES: No matter what, most of the Chiefs stars won’t play the whole game. Fans should get long looks at Chase Daniel, Knile Davis, Junior Hemingway, and A.J. Jenkins. The Chargers are on the outside looking into the playoffs, so they will not be rolling over and playing dead. The reserves will be going against starters, and players who have something in which to play. This will be a nice look to see if some of these reserves are worth trying to develop further in future seasons.
3- SAN DIEGO’S REACTION: If the reserves can play with any sort of competence, it may put the Chargers at a slight disadvantage. It is harder to prepare for Chase Daniel than Alex Smith because there is very little film of Daniel playing against starting NFL players. There is only so much time that can be spent on preparing for a player like Daniel. The Chargers don’t know for sure how much Smith and Charles will play, so they must be prepared for them first. Who knows, maybe the Chargers will be confused by the unfamiliar faces across the line, and stub their toe in this one.
