Keys To The Game for the Chiefs:
1- Justin Houston: It looks like the pass rushing linebacker will be healthy enough to contribute Sunday against the Colts. Houston has missed three full games after getting hurt in the first half of the San Diego game with an elbow injury. Kansas City needs him in the game as they have to win both of their remaining contests against Indianapolis and San Diego, and need they Denver Broncos to stub their toe against either Houston or Oakland for the Chiefs to have a chance to win the AFC West. Houston’s skills will improve a defense that has played poorly the second half. Houston has 11 sacks and 44 tackles despite missing three and a half games. His presence will allow the defense to be more creative with their pass rushes and blitzes. It will good to see number 50 back on the field.
2- Jamaal Charles: The Chiefs’ running back set a number of team and league records last week against the Raiders with his 8-reception, 195 receiving yards effort. His day included 4 receiving touchdowns plus one more on the ground for good measure. Charles has 1,181 rushing yards and 655 receiving yards, plus 18 total touchdowns, as he is making a late run at Peyton Manning for league MVP. The Colts are ranked 27th in the league against the rush, allowing 128.9 per game, so Charles should get plenty of opportunites to shine this week.
3- Pass Defense: The Chiefs have to fix their porous pass defense. This is no secret. The Chiefs have struggled mightily since their bye against the pass. A lack of a pass rush has been partly to blame but the secondary hasn’t helped much either. If the Chiefs have any hope of winning their first playoff game in 20 years, the defense is going to have to buckle down and stop someone. There is a good chance the Chiefs draw the Colts in the first round in the playoffs so a good showing against the pass this Sunday would be a good step in the right direction.
