THREE THINGS TO WATCH
1- ASSISTS TO TURNOVERS: The Wildcats are averaging just one more assist than turnover per game. Kansas State needs to pass the ball better, play more team ball, and take care of the basketball. Freshman guard Marcus Foster leads the team in scoring with 14.4 points a game, but he also tops the team with 2.4 turnovers a contest. He needs to protect the ball more carefully and value each possession.
2- IMPROVE THE SHOOTING: This team has not shown a very good shooting eye at all this season. The Wildcats are hitting just 41% of their field goals so far, which ranks 302nd in the country. Their 3-point accuracy is awful too, as they connect on just 27.8% from behind the arc. Foster (38%), Shane Southwell (37.8), and Will Spradling (35.8) should all be offensive leaders on this team but they have got to find a way to get the ball in the basket on a more regular basis.
3 – GO FOR 6 IN A ROW: Kansas State has won 5 in a row since their blowout loss to the Georgetown Hoyas, including a strong outing against the Ole Miss Rebels two weeks ago. A strong game that results in a win against a nationally ranked team would go a long way to installing some confidence in this Wildcat ball club. Big 12 Conference play is quickly approaching, and Kansas State needs to establish some credibility. They will not be able to coast through on the laurels of their league championship from a year ago. Stretching their current win streak to six against the caliber of a school like Gonzaga could really get Kansas State going in the right direction.
