The Kansas Chiefs clinched a playoff spot with a 56-31 beat down of the Oakland Raiders last Sunday. Now, as fans you are probably already arguing with your fellow chiefs fans about who you would rather play in the playoffs. Well, if the playoffs ended today, the Chiefs would play the Indianapolis Colts.

So lets analyze that possible match up first. Remember, the Chiefs face the Colts Sunday at Arrowhead, so this game could be a preview of the forst weekend of the playoffs.

According to, the Colts offense is rank 18th  in NFL in passing, 18th in rushing and 16th in scoring. The Colts defense is ranked 19th in the NFL against the pass, ranked 6th against the run, and 12th in scoring only allowing 22.8 points a game.

With two losses, the Colts are not unstoppable at home as they lost to the St Louis Rams and Miami Dolphins in Indianapolis.  The main factors in those games were turnovers and sacks. Against St. Louis, the Rams forced Andrew Luck to throw 3 interceptions and sacked him 3 times. Against the Miami Dolphins, Miami sacked Luck 3 times and also made him throw a interception.

Now, lets analyze the Cincinnati Bengals as another possible first round opponent. The Bengals are undefeated at home ,and have beaten the likes of the New England Patriots, Green Bay Packers, and Indianapolis Colts.

The Bengals are ranked 10th in total offense and ranked 6th in total defense. They are a juggernaut at home, presently undefeated, and their key contributors on offense and defense are healthy, unlike the Colts, who are without Reggie Wayne.

That is the main reason why I hope the Chiefs play the Colts in the playoffs. The Chiefs struggling secondary would do better against the Colts Wayne-less receiving core than going against Andy Dalton,  A.J. Green, and company.

Either way, I hope the Chiefs catch the Broncos for the number 1 seed, and get the first round bye. If the Chiefs are unable to pull off that miracle, let’s hope Kansas City plays the Colts in the wild card round of the playoffs. It is just a better match up. Of course, depending on what happens Sunday, that presumption could change.

Regardless, after last season’s disastrous 2-14 debacle of a season, a playoff appearance is sweet indeed. After 20 years without a playoff win, a post season victory would be even better.

What do you guys think? Who do you want the Chiefs to play in the playoffs?
