Keys To The Game for the Chiefs:
1- OVERCOMING INJURIES: The Chiefs have to find a way to adequately fill the gaps in the starting line up created by injuries to linebacker Justin Houston, left tackle Brandon Albert, and tight end Anthony Fasano. Frank Zombo, Eric Fisher, and Sean McGrath all need to step up their play provide starter worthy performances against the Redskins. Kansas City is trying to end a three game losing streak, and they cannot allow injuries to be a reason if they come up short.
2- CONTAINING RGIII: Washington quarterback Robert Griffin III is one of the biggest duel threats in the league. He is extremely mobile and fast, and he throws one of the prettiest balls in the NFL. Griffin has had some rough weeks of late but that doesn’t make him any less dangerous. Whether in the pocket or out of it, the Chiefs can’t let him get comfortable. They need to apply pressure but not allow him to run free. Stop Griffin III, and the Chiefs will win.
3- FINDING DEFENSE: Over the first seven weeks of the season, the Chiefs were one of the best defenses in the league. They had recorded 35 sacks and looked unstoppable. In the last 5 games, Kansas City only has 2 sacks. With the decline of the pass rush, the secondary has collapsed as well. The defensive backs have been unable to maintain man-to-man single coverage, and have been toasted for big play after big play. The Redskins have the 7th best offense in the league, so today’s game will not be a cake walk, despite the disparity in records. The defense must find a way to stop opposing offenses from running wild.
