THREE THINGS TO WATCH
1- ANDREW WIGGINS’ HEALTH – Evidently Andrew Wiggins has been sick over the past three days. He did not have much hop in his step again Wake Forest, despite this fact, he still led the team in scoring, assists, and steals. Kansas will need him to be closer to 100% to take on a very tough, well coached Villanova squad.
2- FRANK MASON – Just because he is so fun to watch. Frank Mason has been the most pleasant surprise this season. His speed and quickness give the Jayhawks a true perpetrator, something they have lacked in recent seasons. Once he figures out how to finish at the rims against the big boys, and learns when to dish the ball back out to the perimeter, he may be unstoppable.
3- DEFENSE, DEFENSE, DEFENSE – Kansas continues to struggle on the defensive end of the court. It got so bad on Thursday against Wake Forest, Head Coach Bill Self sat his starters for nearly 8 minutes of game time. The reserves played much better defense but it is still not the brand of in-your-face tenacious defense Bill Self’s teams usually play. They struggle particularly around the perimeter as players are getting free for way too many wide open jump shots.
Kansas needs to show improvement in the area, starting tonight against Villanova, if they hope to keep their early season 5-game winning streak alive.
