Tamba Hali, Justin Houston Out With Injuries

It is official: Tamba Hali and Justin Houston are out for the rest of the game against the San Diego Chargers.

Hali injured his ankle during a second quarter play that was originally feared to be a ruptured achilles tendon. There is still a chance it could be an achilles depending on how the Chiefs define “ankle” but that information has yet to come from the Chiefs locker room. Frank Zombo has replaced him on the field.

Shortly after Houston went down, Houston injured his elbow attempting to make a tackle. Speculation is Houston broke his elbow, but, like Hali, the Chiefs have not made an official announcement. Dezman Moses and Mike Catapano will take over for Houston.

Houston and Hali have combined for 20 sacks this season, which makes them the most prolific sack tandem in the NFL. Without Houston and Hali the Chiefs essentially have to change the entire way they play defense since so much of what they do is based on the pressure the two provide.

KC led San Diego 14-10 at halftime when both players were declared to be out of the game.

Denver won six games missing five defensive starters. Good teams make it work no matter who is on the field.
