Keys To The Game for the Chiefs:
1- DEFENSIVE SCHEME: It will be interesting to see if Defensive Coordinator Bob Sutton can come up with a scheme to counter the NFL’s answer to the relentless pass rush from Tamba Hali and Justin Houston. Will Kansas City be able to apply any sort of pressure on Philip Rivers if he gets rid of the ball quickly. What adjustments will the Chiefs make? It shall be intriguing to see what new things can be used to counter the the quick firing offenses.
2- RIGHT TACKLE: Can Donald Stephenson fill in for the improving Eric Fisher if the rookie can’t play due to a shoulder injury. Fisher is listed as Doubtful for today’s game. Stephenson filled in several games for left tackle Brandon Albert as a rookie last year, and has been adequate as a back-up this season. There may not even be that much of a drop off in pass protection although the athletic Fisher has been doing a good job in the running game.
3- OFFENSIVE IMPROVEMENT: At times, the Chiefs’ offense looked better last week against the Broncos. Unfortunately, it was far from consistent as Kansas City went long stretches, especially in the first and third quarters without much progress. Head Coach still has stretches where he seems to forget about the running game. As always, quarterback Alex Smith needs to try to get the ball down the field on occasion and create some room for Jamaal Charles and the short passing game.
