The Postgame: First Quarter Dooms Chiefs in Loss at Denver

Score: Denver 27, Chiefs 17

It was over when: Anthony Sherman fumbled a in the red zone one play after Knowshon Moreno fumbled the give the Chiefs the ball. Denver scored on the ensuing possession and never looked back.

Player of the Game: Peyton Manning. Bastard.

1. Defense

Kansas City’s defense played well enough to win this game, but the offense let them down. Against an offense like Denver’s, the more snaps they get, the more likely they are to get the big plays they need.

2. Dwayne Bowe

Denver had no one to stop Bowe tonight. Kansas City needs to take advantage of this the second time around.

3. Round Two

Chiefs have the return game at home where they can put a strangle-hold on the division. It sucks to lose tonight, yes, but there is still a lot of football left to be played.

1. Pass Rush

What pass rush? It simply did not exist.

2. Passing Game

Alex Smith was awful. Dexter McCluster and Donnie Avery were awful. Efficiency in the passing offense simply has not existed and it came back to haunt them tonight.

3. Red Zone

Four trips, two touchdowns. The margin for error against Denver is very small, so only 17 points in four trips is not good. Three touchdowns changes the game.

Hey, the Chiefs are still 9-1. That ain’t bad. GO CHIEFS!

I think that is 3 trips and 3 scores in the red zone. Bowe from the 6, succor from the 20, and Fasano from the 10.

    • Ben Nielsen

Sherman fumbled in the red zone, but good catch on the Fasano TD.

      • Frank

Then that would be 4 trips.

I don’t think Alex was aweful. He made some errant throws when on the run for his life. He made some very good throws that were dropped by his targets. Again. I really think the game plan should have called for him to run more. I think when they were stalled on the goal line, he should have bootlegged.

  • Jeffrey Fisher

I think the officiating stunk. The reason we didn’t get a sack is because
the ref’s were protecting the Precious Peyton Manning! Denver held KC
all night and I think they called one holding call! I think the Chiefs should exercise the Personal conduct and drug clause in Bowe’s Contract and cut him loose! There are 3 and 4th string receivers in college that can catch better than the whole Receiver corp!
We should NOT have cut Wylie! Chip Kelly is benefiting from Reid’s receivers!
and Albert needs to go too! Fisher for a rookie did a decent Job last night! Before he got hurt and he was playing next to Schwartz that side of the line was tight! Jon Asamoah was getting beat inside leaving Fisher to Block 2 DL.
Albert could barely handle one! I don’t see KC picking up his contract at the end of the year!
