The Postgame: First Quarter Dooms Chiefs in Loss at Denver

Score: Denver 27, Chiefs 17

It was over when: Anthony Sherman fumbled a in the red zone one play after Knowshon Moreno fumbled the give the Chiefs the ball. Denver scored on the ensuing possession and never looked back.

Player of the Game: Peyton Manning. Bastard.

1. Defense

Kansas City’s defense played well enough to win this game, but the offense let them down. Against an offense like Denver’s, the more snaps they get, the more likely they are to get the big plays they need.

2. Dwayne Bowe

Denver had no one to stop Bowe tonight. Kansas City needs to take advantage of this the second time around.

3. Round Two

Chiefs have the return game at home where they can put a strangle-hold on the division. It sucks to lose tonight, yes, but there is still a lot of football left to be played.

1. Pass Rush

What pass rush? It simply did not exist.

2. Passing Game

Alex Smith was awful. Dexter McCluster and Donnie Avery were awful. Efficiency in the passing offense simply has not existed and it came back to haunt them tonight.

3. Red Zone

Four trips, two touchdowns. The margin for error against Denver is very small, so only 17 points in four trips is not good. Three touchdowns changes the game.

Hey, the Chiefs are still 9-1. That ain’t bad. GO CHIEFS!
