Who: Oral Roberts (1-0) vs. Kansas State (0-1)
Where: Bramlage Coliseum
TV: Fox Sports Network
The feelings around Manhattan were unexpected after a stunning loss last Friday night against Northern Colorado. Now here comes the Oral Roberts Golden Eagles into Bramlage Coliseum on Wednesday night. Now fans will have to anticipate how head coach Bruce Weber and the K-State Basketball team will respond. The Wildcats will have their work cut out for them as this Golden Eagles team is not a cake walk.
The upperclassmen for the ‘Cats were outplayed by the underclassmen on Friday. Shane Southwell and Will Spradling need to play better in order for K-State to have a chance against the Golden Eagles. Freshman guard Wesley Iwundu stood out last Friday night with 14 points off the bench.
THREE THINGS TO WATCH
#1) Free Throws: It was clear at the end of the game when the ‘Cats lost by 2 points that free throw shooting is an issue for K-State. The Wildcats had plenty of opportunities to make buckets at the line and could not get it done. K-State as a team needs to work on making these, especially earlier in the season, or it will be a long season.
#2) Shane Southwell: Coming off a great junior season, Southwell did not look like himself last Friday. He will have to play much better and make better decisions as the ‘Cats will be playing against a NCAA tournament opponent. Southwell will be the x-factor in this game, whether coming off the bench or starting.
#3) Rebounding: Forward/center D.J. Johnson can have his moments dominating the paint but there are times where he is not into the game. In the second half, the Wildcats were out-hustled by the Bears and that resulted in second chance opportunities. K-State is going to need a lot more intensity up on the glass if they are going to get on the board with a win.
