The Postgame: Missouri Takes Another Step Towards SEC East Title

VITALS

Score: Missouri 23, Florida 17

It was over when: After Florida returned the opening second half kickoff for a touchdown, Missouri responded and went right down the field for a 6-yard Henry Josey touchdown. Mizzou never looked back.

Player of the Game: Henry Josey. 136 rushing yards and a touchdown against the vaunted Florida defense.

Fun Stat: 500 total offensive yards for Missouri. First time Florida has allowed 500 yards of offense since the 2007 Capital One Bowl against Michigan.

THREE POSITIVES

1. Running Game

2. Andrew Wilson, Kony Ealy, Michael Sams

The trio of Mizzou defenders smothered Florida’s offense nearly single-handedly. Had only one bad drive in the game.

3. Maty Mauk

It wasn’t a pretty performance by any means. But Mauk didn’t do anything to lose the game for Missouri, and handled the pressure of playing one of the nation’s best defenses very well.

SEC EAST STANDINGS

Missouri: 7-0 (3-0)
South Carolina: 5-2 (3-2)
Florida: 4-3 (3-2)
Georgia: 4-3 (3-2)
Tennessee: 4-3 (1-2)
Vanderbilt: 4-3 (1-3)
Kentucky: 1-5 (0-3)

Technically, Missouri cannot win the SEC East next week. But beat South Carolina, own a two game lead and tie-breakers over SC and Florida, and Missouri will be in an incredible position in the final four weeks of the season.

THREE WORRIES

1. Maty Mauk

There’s a full game tape on Mauk now. How will Jadeveon Clowney and company attack him?

2. Third Down

Mizzou was 4-for-13 on third down. Unlike Florida, South Carolina can score some points. Extending drives next week is going to be important.

3. Red Zone Offense

Way too many field goals for Missouri, especially with the way Missouri was running the ball.

UP NEXT

South Carolina will visit Columbia, Missouri next Saturday at 6 p.m.
