Speaking of terrible passing games… Kansas Jayhawks.

Kansas’s passing attack, designed by passing “guru” Charlie Weis, ranks at the bottom of the Big 12 in almost every meaningful category. Yards per game? Last. Completion percentage? Ninth. Yards per reception? Last. Completions? Last. Pass efficiency? Last. Touchdowns? Ninth.

The utter absence of a passing game kills nearly all chances of sustaining drives and producing points. Kansas ranks at the bottom in first downs, third-down conversions and percentage. Thus, it should be no surprise Kansas is last in points scored – 53 fewer than the next lowest school.

This isn’t on Jake Heaps, though he has struggled in pressure situations, but is instead a play-calling and personnel issue. Charlie Weis is not maximizing the value of his roster on offense the same way he is doing so on defense. He is putting players out of position and asking them to be something they are not.

KU is not deep or talented enough as a team to be the chameleon kind of offense he is trying to create. They need an identity that fits the players they have who are then coached well enough to execute that scheme. Until Weis figures this out, KU’s offense is going to be a disaster.
