Loudest stadium in the NFL? Pssh, that’s so 90′s. Arrowhead is now the loudest stadium in the world.
Chiefs fans officially set the record sometime during Kansas City’s 24-7 win over the Oakland Raiders, peaking at 137.5 decibels. The crowed played a factor in the game, too, as Oakland had trouble with delay of games and false start penalties.
Guinness had a representative in Kansas City to make the attempt official. Phillip Robertson told KCChiefs.com this before Sunday’s game.
“As an adjudicator, my role is to ensure that Guinness World Records guidelines are followed in making the attempt and ultimately make a determination on whether a record has been achieved,” Robertson explained. “If it has, I will be able to make a record declaration and present a Guinness World Records certificate on Sunday.”
The record was previously help by the Seattle Seahawks, who set the mark one month ago in a game against the San Francisco 49ers.
Tim VanderPol and several other Chiefs fans put together the movement to get Guinness out to Arrowhead.
“We want our loud and proud stadium back,” Tim VanderPol, a member of the group explained. “We want teams to fear playing here and we want to once again be the loudest stadium in the NFL.”
Well, he got his wish: Arrowhead is the loudest stadium in the world – officially.
