The Pregame: Chiefs Kickoff 2013 at Jacksonville

Time: Noon

Radio: 101.1 KCFX (The Fox)

History: Jaguars lead the series, 6-3. Chiefs won the last meeting, 42-20, on October 24, 2010.

Weather: 90-degrees and sunny. There’s a chance of rain Friday and Saturday.

1. Offensive Line

Eric Fisher and the gang had an inconsistent preseason trying to open up holes in the running game and communicating on blitz pickups. Did the unit get everything worked out in time for the season opener?

2. Wide Receivers

Donnie Avery is set up to be Dwayne Bowe‘s wingman for the 2013 season. He and the rest of the wide receiver group have to perform better than what is currently expected of them.

3. Dontari Poe

The 11th overall pick from the 2012 draft had an excellent training camp and preseason that got a lot of people talking. Did we see the beginnings of a future star or was August just a mirage?

Boss Tom’s Golden Bock from Boulevard. Let’s kick this season off… like a boss. Get it?! …Oh boy.

It should be noted this beer is only available in April and May, but I really wanted to do the awful “like a boss” joke. It was worth it for me, anyway. Just drink beer, you’ll be fine.

1. Blaine Gabbert

The former Missouri Tiger quarterback has dealt with a thumb injury all preseason that limited his reps in the preseason. There is a chance he may not start, in which case the reigns go to Chad Henne.

To make matters worse, tight end Marcedes Lewis is out with a calf injury and wide receiver Justin Blackmon is out due to a suspension. Expect a heavy dose of Maurice Jones-Drew.

2. Luke Joeckel

Remember when Joeckel was supposed to be a Chief? Welp, that didn’t happen. KC instead took Fisher, so Joeckel will be fortifying the right end of the Jacksonville’s offensive line. It will be interesting comparing the play of both Joeckel and Fisher.

3. Gus Bradley

Sunday will be Bradley’s debut as head coach of the Jags. He’ll be up against season vet Andy Reid who will be making his regular season debut with the Chiefs. Debuts all around!

It should be noted that Bradley is a North Dakota State alum. I don’t like the vibe of that for KC.
