Chiefs Injury Report: Eight Players On Initial List Against Jaguars

Kansas City released their first injury report of the season today, and listed eight players as having injuries. Here is how things look for the Jacksonville game as of Thursday.

Did Not Practice: Jon Asamoah (Calf), Nico Johnson (Ankle), Allen Bailey (non-injury – attending his father’s funeral).

Limited Practice: None.

Full Practice: Quintin Demps (Hamstring), Eric Fisher (Shoulder), James-Michael Johnson (Groin), Travis Kelce (Knee), Donald Stephenson (Shoulder).

The biggest injury is to starting guard Asamoah, but Geoff Schwartz is more than capable of filling in for him and doing an excellent job. Nico’s injury hurts depth, but shouldn’t be too big of an issue for the defense as a whole. It could mean an impact could be on special teams coverage units.

Seeing Kelce is participating in full practices is a good sign after he went down with a knee injury in the final game of the preseason a week ago. Anytime the words “knee” and “MRI” are involved there is going to be anxiety about a players overall health, no matter what a head coach says. Kelce and Fisher need all the reps they can get so it is good to see they are practicing.

Jacksonville had seven players listed as “limited” in their initial report, including starting quarterback Blain Gabbert and tight end Marcedes Lewis.

I’ve been trying to get a read on what’s going on with Gabbert. He’s going to play, but there’s a possibility we see Henne, who looked awful in the pre season. Hopefully Gabbert comes out rusty from not playing the last few weeks and the chiefs defense just hits them in the mouth. Can’t wait for Sunday!
