Day In Camp: Berry Injured, Hunt Visits, and More

A lot was going on today in St. Joseph, Missouri as the Chiefs continued their summer training camp. Here are some of the stories that came out of camp today.

ERIC BERRY, DUNTA ROBINSON INJURED

Eric Berry and Dunta Robinson were each seen off to the side of the practice field working with trainers and not participating in practice. Terez A. Paylor notes the both Berry and Robinson each have sore hamstrings, the severity of which is unknown.

Paylor also notes Donald Stephenson saw snaps with the first stringers at left guard, rotating with Geoff Schwartz. Jeff Allen is out with a shoulder injury.

HUNT VISITS CAMP

Clark Hunt visited training camp today to get a first-hand look at his team in action, but the question on most everybody’s mind was whether or not his team will be coming back to St. Joe for training camp in the future. Next year is the final year left on a five-year contract with Missouri Western University.

Hunt’s tone seemed be in favor of staying in St. Joe. Here’s what he told reporters, via Adam Teicher.

"“Personally, I like the team going away and the bonding that takes place in the three or four weeks they’re together here. What we have here at Missouri Western is as good as any training facility in the National Football League.”“It’s been a great experience here for us in St. Joseph. We wanted to give the new coaching staff a chance to experience it. I will say that everything I’ve heard from Andy about being here at the university has been extremely positive, both in terms of the facilities and how accommodating the university has been for us.’’"

There has been some thought the Chiefs may move their training camp to Kansas City so players could train at the Chiefs facilities and fans could watch the practices at Arrowhead on weekends. The move could be viewed as a revenue boost for the Chiefs because of the amount of fans they would be able to attract to Arrowhead.

A move to KC would come with some issues as they would have to find a way to house the players and feed them three meals a day. The natural set up of a university can handle those demands whereas the Truman Sports complex is not built for that sort of thing. Still, it is a hurdle the Chiefs could easily clear if they wanted to move camp to Arrowhead.

SEAN SMITH IS HAPPY TO BE A CHIEF

One of the more important signings in the offseason, and potentially the biggest acquisition the Chiefs made outside of the quarterback position, is feeling pretty good about his decision to come to Kansas City.

Sean Smith will be expected to fill the role left open by Brandon Carr when he left for the Dallas Cowboys last offseason. The lack of a secondary presence opposite of Brandon Flowers made stopping the passing game very difficult for the Chiefs last season. With Smith and fellow free agent signee Dunta Robinson on board, the Chiefs should be in a better position to defend the pass.

Here is a little bit of what he told Arrowhead Addict:

"“I feel great,” said Smith. “It’s a great day to be a Chief. Seeing that different uniform after being in Miami for four years, when I put the red on it’s a new feeling. I definitely love it and am happy to be here. I couldn’t be happier.”“I think it’s great,” said Smith. “I think one of the biggest things for us is that we both bring something different to the table. Brandon is a very quick guy with very quick hips. He can break or react on anything. I’m more physical, I like using my hands and at the line of scrimmage, I like to play bump and run. When it comes to match ups, I think Coach Sutton has a wide variety of defensive backs and schemes he can use to match up with different opponents.”"
