KC Headlines: Royals Fall, K-State Advances, Hands-Free Whopper

Rangers 3, Royals 1

For the 12th time in the last 17 games the Royals failed to score at least three runs and thus wasted another excellent by a starting pitcher – this time Ervin Santana – and fall deeper into last place.

Here is the money quote from Bob Dutton’s game story:

“The guy threw the same pitches, same sequence,” Profar said. “I knew (Gutierrez) as going to do the same thing because he threw a curveball first pitch and Pierzynski and Leonys and then same to me. Then all fastballs.”

Jurickson Profar has played 19 games in his MLB career and is three months past his 20th birthday yet he knew exactly what J.C. Gutierrez was going to throw him when Profar his game-winning home run. When, if ever, was the last time you hear a young Royals player make a comment like Profar’s? Ever? I don’t think I’ve ever heard Mike Moustakas or Eric Homer say after a game that they knew what was coming because they could recognize the sequence of pitches a pitcher was throwing to the previous two batters. Whatever we are doing development-wise it isn’t working. It simply isn’t working.
The Royals will have an off day today before starting a nine game homestand against Minnesota, Houston, and Detroit. KC is 23-31 on the season and has dropped 14 of their last 17 games.
Royals Nugget: In their last 17 games the offense has produced a .236/.298/.302 slash line which equates to a .601 OPS. Disastrous.

Kansas State’s baseball team advanced the Super Regionals over the weekend after beating Arkansas 4-3 on Sunday. They will travel to Carvallis, Oregon to face Oregon State in a three-game series. The winner of the series will advance to the College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
