Another good day for the local schools as Kansas State inside linebacker Arthur Brown and Missouri outside linebacker Zaviar Gooden were each drafted on day two of the NFL draft.
Brown, a player some thought could go in the first round of the draft, fell to the Baltimore Ravens with the 56th overall pick in the draft. Brown will likely now fill the role left open by the retiring Ray Lewis, which are pretty big shoes for him to fill. Still, Brown has the talent and the mentality to do very well in Baltimore and should fit right into the scheme that made the Ravens Super Bowl champions a little under three months ago.
Gooden was the last pick of the day – third round, 97th overall – by the Tennessee Titans. He put up excellent number at the NFL combine last month, clocking in with the best 40-yard dash time and bench press reps of any of the draft’s outside linebackers, which helped boost his stock. He will provide a lot of speed an athleticism to the Titans defense along with playmaking ability.
The selection makes Gooden the second Tiger to be taken in the draft after Sheldon Richardson went 13th overall to the New York Jets.
