KC Headlines: Adios Albert?, Davis Deals, Sporting Superb, Patton’s Pitch, Hayden Panettiere

ABOUT LAST NIGHT…
It appears the Chiefs may be close to dealing Branden Albert to Miami. This is only a report right now but there seems to be a strong sense that both teams are very serious in their discussions. We talked yesterday about what the Chiefs could do with one of Miami’s second round picks. Here’s hoping the Chiefs get the higher of Miami’s two second round picks.

The Royals won a 1-0 pitcher’s duel in a clutch victory yesterday afternoon. I was convinced the Royals were going to get crushed after the way Tuesday night ended but the Royals had a stronger resolve than I did. Wade Davis was wonderful, striking out seven, walking zero, and allowing no runs in seven innings of work. Kelvin Herrera bounced back in a big way to work a drama-free eighth inning, and then Greg Holland struck out the side in the ninth for the save. In all, Royals pitching struck out 11, gave up six hits, walked zero, and allowed no runs. The offense? Well, we won’t talk about the offense. KC will have Thursday off before traveling to Boston to face the Red Sox. It will be the Sox first home game since the bombing on Monday.

Sporting Kansas City won the first leg of a bicoastal, four-day road trip against the New York Red Bulls 1-0. Aurelien Collin headed home a Graham Zusi (who else would it be?) corner kick in the 13th minute for the game’s only goal. This mark’s Sporting’s fifth-straight shutout, highlighted by a 519 minute stretch where they have not allowed a goal. Sporting will be in first place by one point in the Eastern Conference when they play the LA Galaxy on Saturday.
The University of Kansas is going to build an $18 million facility to house the original rules of basketball that were written by James Naismith. Good to know KU isn’t hurting for cash. Meanwhile, KU assistant men’s basketball coach Joe Dooley is leaving the program to become the new head basketball coach at Dunk City, er, Florida Gulf Coast.
