Recruiting Roundup: Mizzou lands Kendall Blanton, Julius Randle to Decide

There have been a few recruiting notes in the last few days.

MISSOURI

Blue Springs South high school tight end Kendall Blanton is staying in-state by committing to Gary Pinkel and Missouri last week.

The 6-5, 225 pounder from Blue Springs is the son of former Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jerry Blanton, who started 49 games for the chiefs and recorded two career sacks.

Kendall Blanton has been clocked with a 4.82 40 time and a 30-inch vertical leap.

Missouri has two senior tight ends heading into next season – Eric Waters and Kyle Peasel – meaning Blanton will be competing with Sean Culkin and Brandon Colbert when he joins the Tigers in 2014.

KANSAS

Rivals.com second overall high school basketball recruiting prospect Julius Randle is expected to make a decision on which school he will attend on Wednesday. Randle will be choosing between Kansas, Texas, Florida and Kentucky.

There are a lot of rumors out there that Randle is between Kansas and Kentucky, and further speculation suggests that Kansas has a slight lead for the 6-9 power forward. If Kansas lands Randle he will be in an interesting playing time battle with recruits Joel Embiid and Brannen Greene, as well as current Jayhawks Jamari Traylor and Perry Ellis. Given Randle’s talent, it would be hard to imagine him not starting for the Jayhawks right out of the gate and playing significant minutes.

One thing is for certain, whether Randle commits or not Kansas will be far more talented and deeper in 2013-2014 than they were this season. They should be in contention for another Big 12 championship and NCAA title.
