Wow, last night was crazy for Kansas State. A buzzer-beater three by an obnoxiously wide open Rodney McGruder vaulted the Wildcats to a win in Waco. We’ll have more coverage of this game throughout the day but, man, what a crazy game and huge win for K-State.
Sporting KC came out a little flat for the first half hour of play before taking the next sixty minutes to pound the Philadelphia Union 3-1 in the season opener. Jimmy Nielsen was excellent. Zusi had the first goal and assist of the season. Bieler scored in his debut with Sporting. Rosell had a goal as well. You can find the highlights from the match below.
Ben McLemore is pretty good. A record-setting performance from the freshmen aided what was a total blowout by the Kansas Jayhawks. Maybe the only disappointment was Jeff Withey coming up one block short of a triple-double.
Laurence Bowers had potentially his best game since returning from injury in a win over LSU. Mizzou now prepares for what may be it’s toughest week of the season, hosting Arkansas (Tuesday) before travel to Tennessee.
No, really, the Royals will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, lose again. Moose and Hoz each hit homers in the win. We also learned the Royals came to terms with the final five players who didn’t have contracts for this year. Aaron Crow took a 20 percent pay cut for some reason.
No one can get enough of Alex Smith coverage. Here is Pro Football Focus view of the trade. The further and further away we get from the news of this trade, the more and more it feels just like the Wil Myers for James Shields trade only I’d much rather have Shields than Smith. At the very least, you cannot say Kansas City sports is boring right now.

Justin Bieber had a very sad birthday. I hope all of you can understand his grief this Sunday morning.
John Stamos is going to be on the Black Keys next album. I’m still waiting for Sam Mellinger’s thoughts on this.
