It occurred to me a week or so ago that I never really formally introduced any of the staff that is contributing content to KC Kingdom. They are the knights of this site’s round table and a big part of the community we’re working to build. With that in mind I thought it would be beneficial to provide some information about each of them. To facilitate this process I came up with eight incredibly unimaginative questions and posed them to the staff (and answered them myself).
Next up we have the second of our new Chiefs writers, Chip Garrison.
How did you become a fan of the team you’re covering?
I grew up in Kansas City area until after college, including Olathe and Spring Hill mostly. I’m not really sure why I grew to love the Chiefs since my father didn’t even really enjoy watching the games. Somehow, my love caught, and I can remember from High School on planning my Sundays, or the occasional Monday, around watching the games.
Where did you grow up and where do you currently live?
See the above. I now live in Minneapolis, MN area.
What is your college/educational background?
I have a BS in Religion from MidAmerica Nazarene University in Olathe, KS.
What do you do for a living?
I am a pastor, and have been for 18 years.
What is your family situation (wife, kids, etc.)?
I have 2 children. My daughter is 10 and my son is 7. My son loves the Chiefs and ever since he was 5, he’s enjoyed sitting and watching entire games with his dad.
What do you like to do for fun (sports related or otherwise)?
I watch most sports and I’ll follow NASCAR, until football starts. I’ll follow the NBA during postseason, and college basketball and college football anytime.
What is your favorite sports moment or memory?
1) In 1991, the Monday Night Football game against the Buffalo Bills. KC won that game 33-6 with Steve Deberg, Tim Grunhard and the “OLD” gang. We tailgated and I remember it was the loudest game I’ve ever attended at Arrowhead.
2) After three years of playing soccer in late elementary, my team after winning the season, named me MVP. I still have our team flag, a great memory!
What are your least favorite team(s) and why?
There are too many to name! Any SEC Football team, Cowboys, Raiders and Heat. I’m sure you can imagine why most of those!
