Sporting KC Wins Eastern Conference Regular-Season Championship

Sporting Kansas City won their second straight Eastern Conference regular-season championship on Wednesday night as they defeated the Philadelphia Union 1-0.

The win was also Sporting KC’s fifth regular-season conference title in club history and Sporting KC now has a club-record 12 game unbeaten streak. The unbeaten streak dates back to July 28th when Sporting KC fell to Columbus on the road.

It’s already been a big year for Sporting KC as they defeated the Seattle Sounders FC in the U.S. Open Cup at Livestrong Sporting Park back in August.

Sporting KC needed only a draw to clinch the Eastern Conference regular-season title but they were able to net the win after forward C.J. Sapong scored in the 82nd minute.

Sporting KC will now have home-field advantage throughout the Eastern Conference playoffs and they also have a good chance at hosting the MLS Cup as long as they don’t face the Western Conference’s top team, the San Jose Earthquakes.
